Agbozume, Ketu South Municipality — Residents of Agbozume in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region are appealing for urgent intervention to address persistent water challenges confronting the community.

The situation, according to residents, has placed a significant burden on households, particularly schoolchildren who are forced to walk long distances in search of water for their daily needs.

In response to the worsening situation, community advocate Dan Jerry Sorokpo has petitioned the Ghana Water Limited (GWCL) to take immediate steps to address the water crisis and restore reliable access to potable water in Agbozume.

Residents say the water challenge has become a major concern, with some households struggling to obtain enough water for drinking, cooking, bathing and other essential domestic activities.

One of the most worrying aspects of the situation is its impact on students. Some schoolchildren reportedly have to wake up early or spend considerable time walking long distances to fetch water before going to school. Others are compelled to join queues at the few available sources, resulting in delays in their daily activities.

Residents fear that the situation could negatively affect school attendance, punctuality and the general wellbeing of children who already have to cope with the demands of their education.

The water crisis has also created additional pressure on parents and guardians, who have to spend valuable time and resources looking for alternative sources of water.

Mr. Sorokpo’s petition to GWCL is therefore calling attention to the difficulties faced by residents and urging the water utility company and other relevant authorities to investigate the situation and provide a lasting solution.

Residents believe that access to safe and reliable drinking water is essential to the health, education and development of the community. They are consequently calling for urgent measures to improve the supply and ensure that households and students no longer have to travel long distances in search of water.

The community is hopeful that the petition will receive the necessary attention and that GWCL will work with local stakeholders to address the challenges.

For many residents, the restoration of a dependable water supply would not only ease the burden on households but also allow schoolchildren to devote more time and energy to their education rather than spending hours searching for water.

The people of Agbozume are therefore awaiting a concrete response and intervention to bring an end to what they describe as a prolonged water crisis in the community.
